How to Prepare Your Dog for Their First Swim Session

How to Prepare Your Dog for Their First Swim Session

Taking your dog to a pool for the first time? Here’s how to make sure it’s a safe, positive experience for both of you:

1. Start Slow

If your dog has never been in water, don’t force them in. Let them explore the pool area at their own pace — sniff, observe, and feel safe.

2. Bring the Basics

Pack a towel, treats, your dog’s harness, and a toy or two they love. (Don’t worry — we also have toys and floaties on site.)

3. Use a Life Jacket

Especially for small dogs or breeds that aren’t natural swimmers, a floatation vest adds safety and confidence. We provide doggy life jackets in a range of sizes.

4. Feed Light

Avoid feeding a big meal right before the swim. A small snack is fine, but swimming on a full stomach can be uncomfortable.

5. Check Health First

Make sure your dog is up-to-date on vaccinations and healthy enough for gentle activity. If in doubt, check with your vet.

Ready to dive in? Private and puppy sessions are available to help your dog learn safely and at their own pace.
